It is with a heavy heart after tonight’s Government announcement we close our doors once again . We will keep you updated in due course when restrictions are lifted.

Good afternoon, just an update on the new Tier 4 rules coming into place from tomorrow.

Beechcroft will remain open for singles play only  (no doubles)

Private 1 to 1 lessons can continue as normal

All adult groups are currently cancelled until further notice.

All Junior u18’s tennis and football will and can continue as normal.

I will give you all an update on social tennis Sunday and the potential format we can use in the coming days once I have clarified a couple of things with the LTA.

Luckily for tennis and our club we will still be able to continue with some restricted rules.

Stay safe, see you all at the club very soon 🎾👍

Matt Chairman Beechcroft TC

Following the announcement today by the Government, moving both of our sites into Tier 4, we are forced to suspend all walking football once more.

These restrictions are to take effect from midnight tonight so unfortunately that means all sessions from tomorrow at both sites are CANCELLED until further notice.

For any updates you can follow us on … https://www.facebook.com/groups/222035565583854/.

Nightmare I know and obviously we will be back in touch if anything changes.

Everyone take care.

Kind regards,

Paul Murtagh

Birmingham Walking Football Club

With the recent Government announcement it is with much regret that we have to inform you of our enforced 4 week closure.

Starting from Thursday 5th of November both Beechcroft AND our sister site Solihull Football Centre will be closed.

You will not be able to book on any sessions for the next 4 weeks on our bookwhen system, sessions will be shown as cancelled.

We hope you all continue to stay safe and well and look forward to welcoming you all back On December 2nd, (hopefully).

Beechcroft had an American tournament on Sunday 18th. The weather thankfully stayed dry, the only threat was of being hit by an acorn on the third court! We had 18 players in the draw (which is a fantastic sign of how our tennis club is thriving with lots of new members!), so we had to do two leagues with 5 pairs in one and 4 pairs in the other. We also had to have a same sex couple too, a la Strictly! The game format saw pairings play four games with their partner, then switch partner and play four games against them. Each player recording their own individual score left us with a top Male and top female in each league. To finish we had a final between the two top players of each league, this was Marie and Mike v Jat and Richard. After a close final and tie break, our top scoring Mens champion was Mike and the Ladies champ was honorary female Jat! Both of whom took home our Ken Wilcox cups. A fantastic day full of great tennis. Roll on the next one next month!

Beechcroft 2 v Great Barr 1

The 1st fixture for Beechcroft 2 sees us up against Great Barr 1 who are new team to the Winter league this year. Oscar and Sam were the 1st pairing and Stuart and Jack were the 2nd pairing.

It was lovely sunny day for it and just a bit blustery.

The 1st pairing had a very stiff test against 2 particularly good players and battled hard but went down 2-6 1-6 in their 1st match.

The 2nd pairing who were up 3-1 in the 1st set managed to get over the line and win the set 7-5, in the 2nd set they were down at the start of the set but once again battled back to take the set 7-5 again.

This put the match all square 2-2 going into the changeover.

Jack and Stuart the 2nd pairing also had a very tough test against Great Barr 1st pair and although played well in the 2nd set still went down 1-6 1-6.

Meanwhile on the other court Oscar and Sam were up against the Great Barr 2nd pairing and played really well with great passing shots by Oscar and really good serving by Sam winning the match 6-4 6-3.

This meant a good draw for Beechcroft 2 but a bit unfortunate with only getting 1 point due to the games won overall.

Would like to say thanks to those who came down and supported the team.

Beechcroft2 looking positive for the season ahead!

In response to the latest announcement by the government restricting ‘social’ gathering numbers to 6 from Monday, INCLUDING the further localised restrictions announced today.  Fortunately, this does not apply to organised team sports as explained below  …

Return to Play: Latest Government Guidance

The Government have clarified that from Monday 14 September, people can continue to:

– take part in organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols.

– take part in organised outdoor sports and physical activity events.

– use leisure facilities, including gyms and pools

Click to read more: https://bit.ly/3m7REFI

We adhere to all return to play protocols (please note the attached mitigation measures as a reminder) so therefore ‘at the moment’ we are, as we were and there is NO CHANGE to the current program.

May I take this opportunity to remind you of the new sessions, mentioned in my last email and would urge you to support where possible.

Tuesday                    Over 65’s, at Beechcroft will restart on the 15/9 but at the slightly earlier time of 14:15.

Wednesday             Over 70’s,  is restarting on the 16/9 BUT BEING MOVED TO SOLIHULL starting at the slightly later time of 10:00.

Wednesday             Over 50’s, 11:30 session is also being MOVED TO SOLIHULL permanently from the 16/9, same time 11:30, so do not go to Beechcroft, go to SOLIHULL if you wish to attend this session on the 16/9.

Thursday                  Over 60’s, **New Session** at Solihull 1:30 – 2:45 starting on the 17/9.

As soon as we have further information or there is any change, we will let you know and we will act accordingly supporting all measurers necessary.

Last weekend saw the annual club champs finals take place at Beechcroft, kicking off with the U16’s boys final between Adam Webb & Jack Williams on Saturday. After a very close 2 sets with some fantastic rallies between both boys, Adam came out eventual winner 7-6  6-4.  Both boys should be very proud of themselves and their performance.

Next up was the U12’s match between Archie & Ayaan. Both players played some enjoyable tennis and the second set was very close. Score at the end  6-0 7-5 to Archie.

Sunday was dedicated to the adults club championship.

1 ladies singles – Marsha v Olivia

2 men’s singles – Jaiden v Martyn

3 men’s doubles – Mike & Sam v Matt & Simon

4 ladies doubles – Anna & Sophie v Margaret & Olivia

5 mixed doubles – Martyn & Marie v Marsha & Stuart

6 mixed singles – Jaiden v Mike

First match on Olivia v current ladies champion Marsha. Deep into the second set Marsha went 1 set up with Olivia 4-3 up second set. After a big battle in the second set with Olivia almost taking it to a 3rd and final set, Marsha comes out with a second set victory 6-4 and is our ladies 2020 club champion for a second consecutive year!

Following the ladies singles it was now time for the men to hit the court, Jaiden v Martyn. Jaiden the defending champion was on fire winning 6-1 6-0 in a match Martyn would rather forget!

The doubles matches were next in the September sunshine, with Coach Matt Corp and Simon Webb teaming up against Mike and Sam. Scores show both couples had a good battle with Mike and Sam taking the final set to win the trophy 7-5 4-6 6-4.

Next was the turn of the ladies doubles. Olivia and Margaret v Anna and Sophie. It seemed Olivia had recovered from her singles defeat when her and team player Margaret took the game 6-2 6-0, in a great performance.

The final match of the day was the mixed doubles between Marsha and Stuart and Marie and Martyn. After a closely fought first set singles winner Marsha’s winning streak rubbed off on the pair and they won the first set 7-6. Coach Martyn and Marie played on, dug deep and recovered the second set 6-4, game on! The third and final set saw the dream team continue to gain control and win 6-0. Congratulations to both couples for getting to the final, a great achievement.

Well done to all the players who took part this year, whether you won or lost we hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Finally thank you to all the members for their support including the line judges and umpires whom without your help last weekend would not be possible.

We are pleased to announce that we have decided to restart some more of the pre lockdown sessions and start a new one, with some amendments, as follows …

Other business  …..

Over 40’s Sessions

Can we just dispel the myth that that the over 40’s groups are full of 40 year olds, players between the ages of 40 – 50 make up a very small proportion of the group, the majority being over 50, so if anyone feels like taking part in an evening session then feel free to give it a go.

Booking on

We are still getting people just turning up for sessions, sorry to be a pain but for track and trace we need you registered, if you are struggling to get booked on, give Christine a call on 0121 796 1330, thanks.

From Monday 5th October the Adult Social Table Tennis session price will increase from £3 to £4. The Adult Coaching and Junior Coaching sessions will stay the same at £5 per session. The increase is to bring it in line with other sessions at the club. We feel this is still a competitive price for the sport based on other local clubs. Please note if you are a member of the club the Adult Social Table Tennis will remain at £3.

MONDAY – SOCIAL 9:00-10:30 £4

TUESDAY – SOCIAL 19:00-20:30 £4

WEDNESDAY – COACHING 13:30-15:00 £5

FRIDAY – SOCIAL 09:30-10:00 £4

You may or may not be aware but the FA’s safe return to football proposal was approved by the Government last Friday night, this effectively paves the way for the return of all forms of football from that date.

As a result there is no reason why we cannot resume to the program as it was pre-covid and back to the usual walking football match scenario you enjoyed before.  However, we still need to adhere to on-going government requirements and in line with our controlled release of sessions we will resume the majority of our program as detailed below.

These sessions will replace the current program from MONDAY 27th JULY 2020.

Please note:

In line with the requirements you are still required to book on the system as normal.

In the short term numbers on each session will be restricted to 16 in total.

For players attending Solihull Football Centre you are to only use the toilets at the rear of the bowls club (next to the garage) you are NOT to enter the bowls club main entrance for any reason.

Bibs will be used for one team only and will be washed after every session.

Drill sessions

I am aware that there may be players that do not feel comfortable with returning the match scenario just yet so I ask, if there is anyone out there that would like to continue with the drills based sessions to get back to me and I will try to get something on the program.

Over 70’s

Can I also have your feedback on this, if there is enough players that want to return to this session then we can reinstate, let me know.

This years Mens day tournament took place on Sunday 5th July at Beechcroft. The weather although overcast stayed mostly dry and the turn out was one of the best we’ve seen for a while. Some great doubles games were played and the winners with four wins and 24 points were Oscar and Jat! Congratulations guys!

With Mens Day 2020 approaching this Sunday  (5/7/20) at Beechcroft the adult club championship draw is announced;

Ladies day at Beechcroft 2020 went on Facebook LIVE this year thanks to new member Jat Mann and his filming skills. If you missed it please follow this link – https://www.facebook.com/beechcroftsportsclub/videos/2946896988761228/

Thankfully the weather improved from Fridays downfall and the ladies were able to dodge the odd shower and play their matches. It was very close with a three way tie on four wins. Margaret and Marie were the overall winners as they had won more games. Well done to all who took part!

After Pauls recent email maybe not surprisingly there was a large proportion of you wishing to do something, if not to simply kick a ball again or just to catch up with friends.

As a result, I have put together an interim lockdown walking football program that will be Covid-19 aware and will be restricted to only 5 participants, as per the current government restrictions.  These sessions will be with Nell and will focus on relaxed drills/ball work at £5 pay and play.  I have tried to pick sessions to try to accommodate as many as possible in varied timeslots under the restrictions we currently face.  This is what I have come up with initially, on a trial basis, obviously this can change depending on demand and then we’ll see how it goes.

Please note, I’m pleased to report that Beechcroft fencing is now complete so I am able to offer sessions at both sites.

MONDAY at SOLIHULL                    3 sessions           11:00 – 12:00, 12:15 – 13:15, 13:30 – 14:30.

MONDAY at SOLIHULL                    2 sessions           19:00 – 20:00, 20:10 – 21:10, (LADIES ONLY)

MONDAY at BEECHCROFT             1 session             20:30 – 21:30.

TUESDAY at BEECHCROFT             3 sessions           11:00 – 12:00, 12:15 – 13:15, 13:30 – 14:30.

WEDNESDAY at SOLIHULL             3 Sessions           11:00 – 12:00, 12:15 – 13:15, 13:30 – 14:30.

THURSDAY at BEECHCROFT          4 sessions           10:00 – 11:00, 11:15 – 12:15, 12:30 – 13:30, 19:00 – 20:00.

FRIDAY at BEECHCROFT                 3 Sessions           11:00 – 12:00, 12:15 – 13:15, 13:30 – 14:30.

FRIDAY at BEECHCROFT                 1 session             19:30 – 20:30, (LADIES ONLY)

FRIDAY at SOLIHULL                        1 Session             19:00 – 20:00

All these proposed sessions will commence from Monday 22nd June.

Now, there is only one fair way to determine who comes to the sessions and that is in the shape of a booking system.  Since last week we have been busy setting up a booking system, that does almost everything we need it to do, so therefore if you want to book on any of the sessions above you will need to set yourself up and use our booking system using the following link….  https://bookwhen.com/mpsports … we understand that this will not suit everyone but we really do not have any other solution but it does bring us up to date somewhat.  It may be a good time to acquaint yourself with this system as me may continue with it when we are back to normal or when we are eased further out of the lockdown by the Government.  As I said earlier, groups are restricted to a maximum of 5 but also a minimum of 4 if we do not get 4 or more then the session MAY be cancelled.

Couple of points to note on the booking system, you only have to enter all your details on your first booking, set a password for ease of future use.  There is a waiting list option if one of the sessions are full.  It is therefore imperative that you cancel a booking if you can’t make it so someone on the waiting list is invited.  You can cancel a booking via the email you would have received when you booked on originally.  We will be noting people that book and do not turn up!!  I attach a sheet with all the booking help links if you have any questions.

The clubhouses will not be accessible to any players other than to use the toilet and all players are asked not to turn up to early for the group and to leave when finished.  Again, we are adhering to the current restrictions so we would also ask for players not come to watch sessions that they are not booked into.

Obviously this has all proved to be a bit of a logistical nightmare but we feel it is important to provide some sort of service if only to help those feeling the strain of these rather strange times! Please bear with us if certain things need amending or correcting.

From Tuesday 26/5/20 Beechcrofts new court booking system for tennis court bookings is operational.

Please note you can only book your courts on the hour and until further notice bookings must be from 5pm – 10pm week nights and 9am – 10pm weekends. Courts are booked in 1 hour slots. Once the fencing work is completed some daytime weekday slots will be available to members as well.

Here is a step by step guide to booking.

Firstly use this link to get you directly to the booking clubspark page for beechcroft where you will see the timetable CLUBSPARK

Once you are on this page you will need to log in with your LTA account if you have one if not please set one up it doesn’t take much time at all. If you do not want to do this you can use Facebook login.

Once in, you just click on the day/time and court number and book. You then have a couple of tick boxes then you should be done. Once booked you will be able to see your booking on the calender. You can book your court on your laptop or phone and you can also download booker by downloading this from your app store. If you type in clubspark in the app store you will see the booker app.

We have also added on the calender social singles Wednesdays all 3 courts 7pm – 9pm & Sundays 1pm – 3pm.

Tennis Courts

Great news, from Saturday 16th May we will be opening Beechcroft TC for tennis use only, Senior members with a key will be granted access and be allowed to bring 1 other person from outside the household or more if it is same family members.  We have attached the LTA guidelines and we ask you to read them thoroughly before you start using the club.

Tennis Court usage/court bookings/building work (fencing)

We are expecting a high demand for use of the courts over the coming days and weeks. With this in mind, all courts must be booked in advance through Matthew Corp on mobile: 07930164811. This will avoid crowds of people and disappointment if the court is already in use.  If you would like to be part of the court booking WhatsApp group again please contact Matt.

From next Monday 18th May for up to 3 weeks the club will be out of use between the hours of 9.00am -4.30pm Monday – Friday (not including weekends) this is because the club is having a brand new state of the art fencing system.  We will also unfortunately be down to 1 court booking (1 hour maximum duration) for most of this time, regular updates will be posted as this changes. Once the fencing system is finished we will be back to more courts and more week day usage.

We understand this is frustrating as we start to come out of some form of lock down but this work must be completed to save on future disruption to the club.  The work had started, as planned, prior to lock down but unfortunately the contractors had to halt the works due to the virus.

Tennis Balls & Equipment

We will not be providing any social tennis balls in the club and we are now asking any members to bring, and take home, their own balls and any equipment, to reduce risk of infection.

We will however have tennis balls outside the pavilion from this Saturday which you may help yourselves to and take 1 tin per person.

Please make sure you bring your own tennis rackets and please make sure you collect all your tennis balls at the end of your court time, thank you.

Use of clubhouse

All group sessions are cancelled in all sports with no exceptions (Indoor/Outdoor)

As per the latest  Government guidelines the clubhouse is closed and is not to be used for any sport in any circumstances.  That includes table tennis, irrespective of how many people go to play.

However, we are classed as a ‘private outdoor safe space’ so therefore one 2 one coaching will now resume in a controlled environment (Contact Matt for private tennis bookings)

With regards to this controlled environment we are allowing use of the courts at Beechcroft, via prior booking only, with the following restrictions.

* Only 2 people per court (up to 4 if direct family members living together).

* As previously stated no access to clubhouse (other than to retrieve key for courts, toilet access & washing your hands)

* Bring your own refreshments

* Due to the current ever-changing picture there is a maximum advanced booking time of 24 hours.

* Evening bookings would require players to pay a charge for floodlights (£6 per hour .. £1 coins inserted into machines inside clubhouse)

Court bookings are free to members but would be subject to the same floodlight charges in the evening.

If a member brings a non-member then there will be £4 booking fee for the non member.

Contact Matt on 07930164811 to book your court.

TO REITERATE: All attendance at the club needs to be authorised and must be pre-booked.

We have had a number of kind offers for financial support during this time and we are very appreciative of these kind gestures.  What we would like to ask is that people just renew their membership, or join the club if you are not already a member.  We understand that it may be a while before we can get up and running properly but our bills will not cease and the club purely runs on your membership support.  I thank all those that have renewed their membership so far.

Any questions on membership or to renew contact Lucy on 07956687546 or email beechcroftsportsclub@gmail.com

Finally, I would just like to show my support as Chairman of Beechcroft on saying that I strongly believe we will all come out of this stronger as a club and I honestly think some good will have come from this lock down including appreciating the freedom we are all so use to and just maybe we will all enjoy our sports and socialising just that little bit more.

It is with regret we have to inform you that in line with current government guidelines we have had to close Beechcroft sports club for the foreseeable future while we as a country deal with COVID 19 crisis. We will continue to inform you of developments /re openings when Government / sports associations allow. Please follow us on our blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for updates.
